US Women’s Hockey, Gives Canada First Ever Shutout
The United States looks to acquire more medals today after winning the women’s downhill in alpine skiing and the team event in figure skating.
Up first is Freestyle Skiing Slopestyle as Alex Hall, Konnor Ralph, and Mac Forehand of Winhall, Vermont is trying to stomp massive runs to get a gold medal.
We are on the 2nd of 3 runs.
Konnor Ralph just did a run to get into 5th place.
Alex Hall is up, and he just did a great run to get into 2nd place.
Mac Forehand is looking for improvement on his final run as his second landed him in 7th place.
Third and final runs are here to decide the medals.
Julia Kern of Waltham, MA is in the final of Women’s Cross Country Sprint Classic Final, but Sweden would sweep the podium.
Ben Odgen of Landgrove, Vermont is in the final of the Men’s Cross Country Sprint Classic Final. Ben Odgen wins the Silver Medal! Second American man to ever win a cross-country medal!
Alex Hall will win the Silver Medal for the United States in Freestyle Skiing Slopestyle.
Paula Moltzan and Jacqueline Wiles acquired the bronze medal for the United States in Alpine Skiing Women’s Team Combined.
We move on to the Curling Mixed Doubles Gold Medal match with the United States duo of Korey Dropkin and Corey Thiesse taking on Sweden in the championship.
The duo had to walk to the stadium due to a car wreck causing a traffic jam.
After the 1st end, it is 1-0 United States over Sweden
Sweden takes the 2nd end, to make it 2-1 over United States.
United States takes the 3rd end to tied it up at 2.
Sweden takes the 4th end to make it 3-2
United States ties it again to make 3-3 after the 5th end. It is coming down to the wire!
Ashley Farquharson of the USA wins the Bronze Medal in Women’s Singles Luge! The first medal since 2014!
Back to Mixed Doubles Curling, Sweden takes the 6th end to make it 4-3.
United States back in the lead after taking the 7th end to make it 4-5. It is all coming down to the final end!
United States loses in the final set 6-5 and will receive the silver medal.
We move onto the US Women’s Hockey team taking on Canada in the finale of round robin play. Canada is without Marie-Philip Poulin who is widely regarded the best women’s hockey player in the world.
Frankel, alumnus of Northeastern is back in net for the United States.
Caroline Harvey of Salem, NH scores the first goal for the United States to make it 1-0 over Canada. A fantastic start!
United States scores again to make it 2-0 thanks to Hannah Bilka!
In the 2nd period, Kirsten Simms scores to make it 3-0 United States. United States continues to outshoot their opponents by a wide margin this Olympics.
United States scores to make it 4-0. Hannah Bilka has her second of the night!
Laila Edwards finally scores after hitting the goal post twice in this game to make it 5-0 United States! Canada is forced to make a goalie change.
The United States beats Canada 5-0. The US hands Canada its first ever shutout in the Olympics in Women’s Hockey. This is not over between these two as the US moves on to the playoffs.
After 4 days of the Olympics, the United States has 7 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze).
