Patriots, Maye Overcome Wasted Opportunities, Upset Bills

NFL

Patriots went into their Bills game with high stakes. Patriots went into this game with key players on defense such as Christian Gonzalez and Christian Barmore being ruled out due to shoulder injury.  Patriots defense hold Josh Allen and the Bills offense on the first drive of the game. The Patriots had a long drive to start on offense, at one point operating in their own endzone, but Drake Maye was able to scramble away to prevent a costly sack. On that same drive, Maye would throw a touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs to make it 7-0 Patriots. The Patriots would fail to stop the Bills on a 4th and 1, a 3rd and 6th in the redzone, and would lead to a Bills touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

Maye continues to have miscues as he would fumble the ball in the redzone on the next drive. The Patriots would stop the Bills drive without any consequences. The Patriots would use the legs of Maye and Rhamondre Stevenson to score a touchdown to make it 14-7. The last two minutes of the first half for the Patriots would be a total disaster. On the next drive, the Patriots had mind boggling penalties including an inexcusable penalty by Mike Vrabel on detrimental conduct to the referees that could have limited the Bills to a field goal.  The Patriots could not gain one yard on the next drive and would be force to kick it back to the Bills. The Patriots defense would try to save the half by recovering a Bills fumble. However, Maye would get intercepted thanks to Romeo Doubs deflecting the ball to a Bills defenseman. The Bill would take the lead on a field goal to make 17-14 at halftime.

Patriots would convert a 4th and 3 to start the 3rd quarter, bailout by a defense holding by the Bills, and Romeo Doubs would score his second touchdown to make it 21-17 Patriots despite Maye mishandling the snap multiply times on the drive. The Patriots defense would struggle against the Bills in the 4th quarter. The Bills would to cut into the lead thanks to a field goal in the 4th quarter to make it 21-20 Patriots. Follow by another disastrous drive plague by the Patriots miscues on offense, the Bill would score a touchdown to make it 26-21 after a failed 2-point conversion.

Patriots would score a touchdown thanks to a Chism III one hand catch touchdown and would convert a 2-point conversion to make it 29-26 Patriots. The Patriots were fortunate that Josh Allen would have a lapse of judgement as he got intercepted by the Pats. The Patriots would escape with an upset over the Bills with a 29-26 win. Miscues and wasted opportunities plague the Patriots throughout the game still raise questions about this team going forward despite the stunning upset.
