Victorie Spoils Party for Fleet and Frankel

There was a hockey double-header on Saturday at the TD Garden in Boston, MA. The Boston Bruins earlier in the day failed to secure a playoff spot by losing to the Tampa Bay Lighting 2-1.  But this is not what this article is about. This article is about how the Professional Women’s Hockey League stage its first ever game at a sold-out TD Garden between the Boston Fleet and the Montréal Victoire.

The Bruins today wore Fleet jerseys to support the team before their game. Both teams came into this game at the top of the PWHL standings. The Victorie had 55 points and were in 1st place, and the Fleet had 54 points and were in 2nd place going into the game. US Olympian Megan Keller is playing for the Boston Fleet. US Olympian and Northeastern Alumni Aerin Frankel is the starting goaltender for the Fleet. This a rematch for the goalies as both starting goalies were the goaltenders for the United States-Canada gold medal game in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 1st period was very physical, but both teams were unable to break through and it was 0-0 in the 1st intermission. The 2nd period continued to be physical, but the teams remained deadlock 0-0 at the 2nd intermission. The Victorie scored to finally break the deadlock to make it 1-0 in the 3rd period and that would be the final score of the game.

Despite the Victorie being the winner in today’s game, the real winners were the fans who showed up to sell out the TD Garden and demonstrate that Women’s Hockey has a bright future in New England.
