McGinn, Scotland Defense Secure World Cup Win in Boston
There was a party throughout Boston the past couple days as Scotland fans took over the city prior to their first World Cup match in 28 years. They have partied so much that I wonder if Boston will have any beer when this World Cup is over. Haiti would join the party on matchday as they are in the World Cup for the first time in 52 years.
The party continued prior to the match as Scotland and Haiti face off with the potential to take the lead in Group C as Brazil vs. Morocco ended in a tie which was the match before this one. Supporters for both nations did not outnumber each other unlike the prior match on the schedule where Brazilians outnumbered Moroccans. Both supporters belted out their national anthems proudly prior to kick. Bagpipes would be heard throughout the game.
To the delight of the Scots, John McGinn scores the first goal of the match in the 29th minute. Scottish fans are going nuts in the stands. Technical difficulties on the world broadcast feed briefly gave me a heart attack.
After halftime, Haiti tried to tie it up but after 60th minutes it was to no avail. Haiti went on the offense for the second half, but the Scottish defense proved to be stingy. Scotland holds on to win the match and take the lead in Group C for now much to the delight of the Tartan Army. Scotland fans would sing their victory song into the night.
Duke’s Moment of the Match
John McGinn’s shot that was deflected in for a goal that decided the match.
