France and Mbappe Beat Brazil at Gillette Stadium
As I went to Gillette Stadium to see a practice match between France and Brazil, I came out of the match feeling like it was money well spent. The atmosphere was tense for a friendly and the fans made it feel like it was a life-or-death situation – even if this was a practice match for the World Cup. Both teams used cooling breaks despite the cold to stimulate what would happen during the real thing. Also, the match used the balls that will be used during the World Cup. Mbappe scoring in the 31st minute to make it 1-0 France and be one shy of tying the all-time scoring record for France was the highlight for me and my father. I will never forget that moment. France would be down 10 men at 55 minutes, but the lack of top rank players after a rough road of qualification for Brazil to get into the World Cup, demonstrating that France was never in really danger. France would score to make 2-0 despite only having 10 men. Brazil would try to make a comeback between the 70th and 80th minute by making it 2-1, but the match would end with a 2-1 victory for France. The Boston Celtics were honorary guests after they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder by 10 at the TD Garden in the night prior to the match. Jayson Tatum did the coin toss to start the game. People attending World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium will not have a problem experiencing a soccer match atmosphere.
